A Garden Wedding at Glynwood: A Hudson Valley Venue Highlight

When Christina and Michael set out in the summer of 2023 to plan their New York wedding, the one non-negotiable was finding the perfect setting. As Hudson Valley wedding planners, our goal is to search far and wide for the perfect venue for our couples. After exploring many venues, we arrived at Glynwood. The moment we arrived, Christina’s eyes lit up. From that point on, the certainty kicked off everything that followed.

Design & Details for a Glynwood Garden Wedding

From the moment we secured the venue, we shifted into full design-mode. Christina’s vision was garden-meets-refined estate lush and organic, but polished and elevated. We spent showroom appointments together selecting each piece: the chairs, flatware, dinnerware, glassware, linens, bars, and everything in between to capture that garden-estate vibe she was looking for.

For the tabletop we zeroed in on white china with a scalloped edge to add an element of sculpture, classic glassware and flatware and to add a layer of depth and texture, we decided on white eyelet table linens for the round tables and a soft blue for the rectangular tables. In order to add to the garden, soft vibes, we rounded out the design with beautiful drapery tied back on each pole of the tent.

Throughout the process Christina and I would joke that this is “Michael’s surprise party”. He trusted Christina (and me) to put together a beautiful wedding he know she would love. It was so great when he’d pop in occasionally for a meeting, flash a thumbs-up, and mostly let us go to work!

Rehearsal Dinner at the Boathouse

On Friday evening, the rehearsal dinner took place in the Boathouse at Glynwood. A misty twilight setting gave the water a glass-like sheen. The tables glowed with soft candlelight, linens in pale dove and blush tones, and oversized floral arrangements that borrowed greens from the lakeside trees. This design was specifically curated to keep with the blue and white theme of the weekend and tie into that garden-water aesthetic. The catered menu by Grounded featured seasonal Hudson Valley fare, a open fire-roasted, relaxed yet elevated evening that set the tone beautifully for the weekend.

Ceremony on the Lawn

In the Hudson Valley, the weather can sometimes be unpredictable. But after a misty and mildly rainy Friday evening, Saturday dawned bright and clear. The day began with getting ready photos and a romantic first look between Christina and Michael. Christina also decided to do a first look with her father as she entered down from the spiral staircase in her stunning dress. First look took place in front of the fountain where they exchanged their personal vows – I love this touch! It’s romantic, personal, and less intimidating. Something special to share between you and your future spouse.

When guests arrived, they gathered in the courtyard in front of the Perkins house for welcome drinks before entering the ceremony lawn, overlooking the Hudson Valley mountains. A floral meadow acted as their arbor for their ceremony with a local priest as their officiant.

Cocktail Hour in Front of the Perkins House

After the ceremony, guests moved to the courtyard in front of the Perkins house for a garden-style cocktail hour. For this design, we decided on crisp, white bars with tables draped in garden, moss-green linens, floral and fruit styling on the welcome table, and a gorgeous linen seating chart for guests to find their seats.

During cocktail hour, Christina and Michael got a chance to preview the reception space to see all of the hard work Christina put into the design for their wedding. She got to see the entire tented reception empty and ready for their party. They loved how everything came out and felt so cohesive and exactly what she was hoping for. They ended their preview with a private dance before guests entered.

Evening brought the tented reception. Inside the sailcloth tent, guests waiting for Christina and Michael’s entrance, as they went right into their first dance, a great way to kick off the evening with a mini dance set!

Christina and Michael danced the night away surrounded by their favorite people, amazing speeches, a live band, laughter under the tent, delicious food, and lots of love. And finally, we closed with the after-party in the library where the girls cuddled up on the sofas and watched videos of the entire day with the bride. Cigars on the side porch next to a fire was another perfect touch that many guests enjoyed.

I had the pleasure of working with Christina and Michael for almost 2 full years creating the Hudson Valley wedding of their dreams at Glynwood in Cold Spring, NY. An absolutely stunning property. Glynwood is a 225-acre farm in the heart of the Hudson Valley. They are focused on local sustainability, raising their own animals and growing their own produce. They aim to only host a few events per year on the farm, in order to control their carbon footprint. The staff and property is absolutely amazing and I encourage anyone looking to host their wedding there to book as soon as possible, as they book up quickly!
