How We Designed a Hutton Brickyards Wedding
The Hudson Valley is home to some of the most unique and inspiring wedding venues, and Hutton Brickyards is no exception. Along the Hudson River in Kingston, NY, this historic property once served as a thriving brick manufacturing site during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, its industrial charm and stunning waterfront views make it a sought-after destination for couples seeking a venue with character and history.
As a Hudson Valley wedding planner, one of my favorite challenges is transforming industrial spaces like Hutton Brickyards into warm and inviting settings for a couple’s big day. When Kayla and Cole chose this venue, they wanted to highlight its unique architecture while infusing their celebration with a cozy, intimate vibe that embraced natural textures and neutral tones.
Designing for Warmth in an Industrial Setting
Hutton Brickyards boasts open-air pavilions, exposed brick, and raw, industrial elements that tell the story of its rich history. To create a design that balanced the venue’s rugged character with a sense of warmth and elegance, we focused on:
String Lighting to Set the Mood
String lights played a pivotal role in softening the industrial atmosphere of the pavilions, while also highlighting it. As the sun set over the Hudson River, the glow of warm lights overhead created an enchanting ambiance, bringing a sense of intimacy to the vast open space. Lighting is one of the most impactful design elements in any wedding, and here it beautifully tied together the rustic charm of the venue with the couple’s desire for an inviting atmosphere.
Beige Linens and Textured Details
To complement the venue’s natural tones, we incorporated beige linens with subtle textures that added depth without overpowering the space. These understated yet elegant linens enhanced the tablescapes while providing a neutral base that let other design elements shine.
Neutral Florals with a Focus on Texture
The floral arrangements embraced a neutral color palette with creams, whites, and soft greens. The focus on texture and neutral colors added dimension and visual interest, perfectly complementing the industrial backdrop. The florals brought a fresh, organic feel to the space, bridging the gap between the venue’s history and the couple’s modern, yet traditional aesthetic.
Thoughtful Layers and Cozy Accents
Layering was key to the overall design. From the textured linens to natural wood accents and understated yet impactful decor, every detail worked together to bring warmth to the industrial space. Cozy touches like candlelit centerpieces further softened the edges, creating a romantic, welcoming atmosphere for guests.
Hutton Brickyards is more than just a venue—it’s a piece of Hudson Valley history. Once a cornerstone of the area’s brick manufacturing industry, the site now offers couples a chance to celebrate their love amidst sweeping river views and a backdrop of preserved industrial architecture.
As a Hudson Valley wedding planner, I love working with venues like Hutton Brickyards that combine history and character with endless potential for personalization. Whether you envision a wedding design that embraces the space’s industrial roots or one that softens its edges with warmth and elegance, this venue provides the perfect canvas for a one-of-a-kind celebration.
