Timeless Elegance at 501 Union in Brooklyn
As a wedding planner who mainly focuses on the Hudson Valley/Catskills Region, I do dabble with the New York City market, as it’s where I was born and raised and still have roots. I was absolutely privileged to have been asked by Kit and Kenny to work on their Brooklyn wedding at 501 Union, a truly stunning, one-of-a-kind venue.
A lot of my couples are extremely busy with demanding NYC careers. Kit and Kenny were no exception. Kit works for Twitter and was overwhelmed with the process of planning her wedding, especially while navigating the company’s significant changes in 2022, while Kenny also works another demanding but exciting career at the MLB network. After attending a good friend’s wedding back in 2019, they watched me at work (on my 30th Birthday – wait did I just age myself?! UGH) and reached out! I was delighted. Their friends were such wonderful people and honestly made my 30th Birthday so special that I knew Kit and Kenny had to be amazing, too! Kit and Kenny needed a wedding planner who could work around their schedules and take charge of the planning process. We honestly hit it off immediately.
The wedding took place at 501 Union, a stunning venue in Brooklyn, New York. The venue’s natural greenery provided the perfect backdrop for the couple’s wedding ceremony and reception. We played off of the venue’s vibe, using the natural greenery as inspiration and enhancing it with modern, green and black colors.
One of the most memorable moments of the wedding was the couple’s first look at the space. They walked into the bright space with hanging greenery, twinkling lights and beautiful flowers, which set the tone for the entire evening. When Kit walked into the ceremony space, she started tearing up! She is honestly the kindest human. The wedding ceremony was a beautiful, heartfelt event that truly reflected the couple’s personalities.
They chose to do their first look at the Beekman Hotel in NYC, where they also got ready for the big day. My assistant and I brought their personal florals over to the hotel, which was STUNNING and we scoped out a first look location. They did a private first look (so glad I have photos from Isabelle so I could see them!) Her dress was ABSOLUTELY stunning. Later in the night for her bustle, we attached a large bow on the back and it was just so beautiful! So regal.
The design for the wedding was all about bringing the outside in. We wanted to create a natural, organic feel that would complement the venue’s surroundings. We used green and black as the primary colors, with pops of white and gold for contrast. The table runners were made up of lush greenery and white roses, and the tables were adorned with simple, elegant, yet bold place settings. Michelle did such an incredible job with the florals. Also, their table numbers were named after circuses from Circus Camp that they both attended (at the same time when they were 11 and 13 years old!!!) How fun is that! Apparently, Kenny’s juggling skills are quite good. HAHA. Love them!
Kit and Kenny had the BEST DJ, James Mulry who kept the crowd on the dance floor the entire night! Late night, just jamming out to millennial punk rock was a highlight along with Kenny’s mom just busting out her amazing moves to Night Fever by the Bee Gees and getting everyone to follow along! She has talent I tell you. (Check out my IG Highlights to see those moves!)
We also had this incredible photobooth company I like to work with called Self Portrait Project. Their patented system puts the power of portraiture in your hands, and results in beautiful, studio-quality images. They are really one-of-a-kind! Here are some photos of me with the bride and groom and also with the previous couple of mine who got married in 2019 and welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world in late 2022!
